Goal & Purpose

Ottawa-Inspired Seltzer

This branding and motion project was for Dominion City Brewing Co., a craft brewery offering beer, non-alcoholic seltzers, and community-driven initiatives. The goal was to design two new seltzer cans that visually represent Ottawa while breaking away from the brewery’s existing design style. Targeting a youthful audience seeking vibrant, non-alcoholic options, the designs were inspired by Ottawa’s seasonal events—one themed around Capital Fair for summer and the other around Winterlude for winter. Research included exploring Ottawa’s landmarks, selecting complementary color palettes, typography, and an art style that would bring the vision to life.

From Concept to Completion

The project began with research on Capital Fair and Winterlude to identify key visual elements that make them recognizable. These aspects were then incorporated into the can designs, with early sketches remaining close to the final version. Since this was my first time designing a can, extensive research was needed to understand the specific requirements for seltzers. Experimentation played a major role, especially in the motion pieces, as I navigated Blender for the first time. The water scene alone took six iterations before I achieved the desired result. The client provided minor feedback on spacing, font weight, and imagery placement, leading to final refinements such as adjusting alignment, bringing imagery forward, and repositioning the barcode horizontally.

Seltzer Cans Designs

I really enjoyed seeing my can designs come to life through mockups, as it was exciting to see my vision materialize. The client was happy with the final project, which made all the research, experimentation, and adjustments worth it. This project was a great learning experience, as it was my first time designing a can, working in Blender, and experimenting with 3D rendering. I learned a lot about the specific requirements for seltzer packaging and how to approach motion design, especially in Blender. While I’ve gained valuable skills that I would apply in similar future projects, there are always areas for improvement. Overall, I’m proud of the outcome and happy with how the designs turned out.
