Goal & Purpose

Kinetic Type

This animation project was created for Andrew Miller, with the goal of designing a kinetic type animation that brought typography to life through movement. The target audience included type enthusiasts and those who enjoy lyric and animation videos. The only requirement was that it had to be a kinetic type animation, giving me full creative freedom over the audio, style, and animation. To develop my approach, I researched various kinetic type animations to understand effective techniques and how others had executed similar projects.

Process

Bringing Words to Life

I started by selecting an audio track that I could visually interpret, ultimately choosing Strangers by Kenya Grace. From there, I identified a specific section of lyrics that would be engaging for a kinetic type animation. To enhance the meaning of key words, I incorporated imagery and icons while carefully refining the easing and timing to create a smooth and dynamic flow. Achieving the right pacing required significant experimentation and multiple replays to ensure fluid motion. While the client had no revisions, I refined certain scenes by adding more detail to enhance the final animation.

Result

Smooth and Satisfying

Watching the motion piece come together after hours of work was incredibly rewarding. I was especially pleased with the pacing and transitions, which helped bring the kinetic type animation to life. The client was happy with the final result, and I wouldn’t change my approach if I were to do it again, as everything came together as intended.
