Goal & Purpose

Redesigning Govee’s App

The goal of this project was to redesign Govee’s app interface and LED light strips, focusing on a cleaner, more intuitive UI for easier navigation. The redesign also aimed to improve adhesive quality, enhance colour consistency, and introduce modular extension options, ultimately elevating user satisfaction and positioning Govee as a stronger competitor in the smart lighting market. The primary audience for these improvements includes tech-savvy young adults and teenagers, aged 18 to 35, who seek customizable lighting for gaming and living spaces, with features like voice control and music syncing. A secondary audience consists of home decorators and interior designers, aged 25 to 45, who value versatile lighting to create inviting environments in homes, cafés, and event spaces.

Process

From Research to Prototype

The project began with thorough research into business goals, product analysis, market trends, competitors, and target users. Personas were developed to better understand how customers would interact with the product and app, ensuring the design aligned with their needs. Sketches and concepts were created, followed by research on the style and colour scheme for the accompanying poster. Prototypes were developed digitally, refined, and finalized. The project progressed smoothly, as research provided a solid foundation, with only minor UI adjustments—such as adding a back button—made based on client feedback.

Result

A Seamless Redesign

The final design successfully met the project’s objectives, delivering a streamlined app interface alongside improved LED light strips, with a poster showcasing the product enhancements. I was particularly proud of how the poster came together, aligning perfectly with the original concept. The client was satisfied with the outcome, providing positive feedback without any additional revision requests. This project reinforced the importance of user-centred design and how a well-executed app can complement a physical product. I wouldn’t change my approach, as it effectively brought the concept to life and achieved the desired results.
